Como 1907’s Youth Academy Season Recap

Como 1907’s youth academy has emerged as a powerhouse of talent development, with an impressive series of tournament victories in April 2025 highlighting the club’s commitment to excellence across both men’s and women’s teams. The success spans multiple age groups, demonstrating the depth and quality of Como’s youth development program.

Women’s Football Breaking Boundaries

Como 1907 Women’s U19 team debuted a remarkable season to remember. The team won the league cup, clinched the Lombardy Regional Championship title in their inaugural year, and secured their place in the U19 National Championship phase. The season marks a milestone in the youth development project, telling a tale of determination, tactical evolution, and the Como spirit that has captivated audiences worldwide.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Mauro Roveda and Assistant Coach Samuele Piazza, these young athletes embarked on a journey that exceeded all expectations. The coaching duo understood they weren’t just developing players – they were laying the foundation for Como’s future in women’s football. Mauro reflects on his thoughts on the journey: “What we achieved this season goes beyond football. These young women embodied everything Como 1907 represents – excellence, ambition, and the courage to dream big.”

The U17 women’s team set a remarkable standard by winning the league, then went on to claim victory in the prestigious YES Cup, an international tournament featuring teams from Italy, Australia, Denmark, and the Netherlands. After a thrilling semifinal penalty shootout win against Atalanta, the young Lariane secured the trophy with a convincing 3-1 victory over Australian side Manly United.

Head Coach Matteo Malpede emphasized the tournament’s significance beyond just sporting achievement: “International tournaments like these are invaluable for our development. The football culture in international women’s football is beyond what we have here in Italy.” Malpede particularly praised the team’s unity, noting how the players supported each other both on and off the pitch.

Men’s Youth Teams’ Dominant Display

The boys’ teams matched their female counterparts’ success with an impressive string of victories. The U16 squad captured the Italo Galbiati trophy, defeating AC Milan 2-0 in the final of the 32-team tournament. Head Coach Cristian Boscolo attributed the success to the team’s resilience and belief, particularly highlighting their comeback victory against Alcione in the earlier rounds.

The U15 team added to the club’s trophy cabinet by winning the AON CUP, prevailing in a tense final against San Giuliano City with a last-minute winner. The tournament, which featured 20 professional youth teams, showcased Como’s ability to compete at the highest youth levels.

From Dreams to Reality: Como 1907 Primavera’s Journey of Growth

Despite a compelling season that saw Como 1907’s Primavera squad finish second due to a head-to-head tiebreaker with Parma, then slightly miss the third spot play-off for promotion, the young Lariani had a tremendous season of growth. Equalling champions Parma with 69 points and ending the season as the most goal-scoring team and conceding the least in the league, the young Lariani made a statement that echoed throughout Italian youth football.

From missing the playoffs last season to reaching the playoff semi-finals, the journey reflects the team’s steady and consistent growth that mirrors the first team’s success – proof that success at Como isn’t accidental – it’s systematic, it’s planned, and to developing youth into the future of Como 1907.

Success Across All Age Groups

The academy’s excellence extends to both ends of the age spectrum. The U13 team demonstrated their potential by winning the UESSE PRO ‘Troffeo Edil Erre’ Tournament, competing successfully against established academies including Inter Milan and Atalanta. Coach Stefano Cassano praised his team’s courage and spirit, particularly when facing physically superior opponents.

Even the youngest age group made their mark, with the U10 team securing victory in the Ischia Cup. Coach Andrea Scanziani emphasized the holistic development approach, noting how the tournament contributed to both sporting and personal growth: “We learned a lot in this tournament, both on and off the pitch. An important aspect was learning how to be independent in everyday life while living away from home.”

Development Philosophy

These successes across different age groups and genders reflect Como 1907’s comprehensive approach to youth development. The common thread through all coaches’ comments emphasizes not just technical excellence, but also personal growth, team spirit, and character development.

The achievements in April 2025 demonstrate Como 1907’s commitment to nurturing talent across all levels, creating a robust pathway for young players to progress toward professional football. With both the men’s first team securing Serie A safety and the women’s team finishing second in Eccellenza 2024/25, the future looks bright for Como 1907’s rising stars.
