Match Preview: Cagliari–Como

After the draw against Inter for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal, Como now shift their attention back to the league. In the matchday 28 of the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive, the BiancoBlu travel to Cagliari to face the Rossoblù at the Unipol Domus tomorrow afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

Como arrive in Sardinia on the back of the 0-0 draw against Inter, a result that confirmed the defensive solidity of the team under Cesc Fàbregas. The BiancoBlu are now aiming to continue their positive run as they look to finish the season strongly.

Cagliari, meanwhile, will be looking to claim valuable points and a first win in over a month. The Rossoblù, coming off a draw at Parma, are a well-organised, intense side capable of challenging any opponent, particularly at the Unipol Domus.

Como Coach Cesc Fàbregas on Saturday’s trip to Cagliari

“Saturday’s match will be very important for us. We are improving and we want to keep moving in this direction. It will also be the final game in a run of 15 matches in 63 days. I want to give credit to everyone for consistently finding the energy, the attitude and the solutions needed to win.

“We are at a stage of the season where physical and mental recovery during the week is essential. We have worked hard for eight months to get to this point and now we want to give everything in the final 12 matches. We must enjoy this moment, because we have built it through our hard work, and now we have to it done on the pitch.

“Against Cagliari I expect a similar match to the first leg in Como. I know Pisacane well. He is doing an excellent job and bringing a very clear idea to his team. We are two young coaches who want to keep learning and who always try to communicate with the players. We will put our best foot forward and try to take the three points.”

Cagliari

Cagliari are a compact, intense side, capable of controlling the different phases of a 90-minute game. Currently 13th in the table, with just two points from their last four league matches, the Rossoblù have not won since 31 January, when they defeated Verona 4-0 at home.

Tactically, Fabio Pisacane’s side tends to defend with high density between the lines and then break quickly into space. At the Unipol Domus, the support of the home crowd often proves decisive, boosting both the tempo and intensity of the game.

Previous Encounters

Como and Cagliari have met 52 times across Serie A, Serie B, and the Coppa Italia.

The record shows 20 wins for Cagliari, 17 for Como, and 15 draws. The last meeting in Sardinia was in August 2024, when the Lariani earned their first Serie A point in 21 years, drawing 1-1 at the Rossoblù with Cutrone cancelling out Piccoli’s opener.

A particularly notable moment in Cagliari’s history came on 11 January 1976: in a Cagliari–Como match, club legend Gigi Riva scored his final goal before suffering a serious injury on 1 February 1976 against Milan, an event that ended his career after 374 appearances and 205 goals in the Rossoblù shirt.
