Match Preview Como vs Sassuolo
After securing an important three points away to Fiorentina in Serie A Enilive, Como 1907 return to the Sinigaglia Stadium for the Coppa Italia Round of 32. Tomorrow evening, Como will host Sassuolo in a knockout tie to determine who progresses to the Round of 16.
In the previous round, Como booked their place in this stage of the competition with a 3–1 win over Südtirol.
The winner of the match will face Fiorentina in the round of 16 on 3 or 17 December.
Statements by coach Cesc Fàbregas on the eve of Como vs. Sassuolo:
“We have to keep our focus. This group has had a winning mentality since last season, and we want to carry that into the Coppa Italia. The players are happy, motivated and working hard, but football doesn’t stop. Now it’s time to go again and aim for another victory.”
“I expect a match where we need to take control from the very first whistle. We want to win, and we must show that from the very beginning by playing a complete and focused match. Sassuolo is coming off a strong performance at San Siro against Inter, and I believe they’re a dangerous side.
“With three matches in a week, there’s limited time for tactical work on the pitch, so we rely more on video and analysis. Recovery is key, as well as having clear ideas and staying true to our playing style. Some players will be starting the match, perhaps for the first time, and they have to seize that opportunity and show that they’re ready.”
Sassuolo
Fabio Grosso’s Sassuolo side shows a clear intent to play proactive football, based on possession and thoughtful build-up play, even if early results haven’t yet reflected this philosophy.
One of the team’s most distinctive traits is their limited use of crosses as an attacking tool. With only 41 attempted crosses, Sassuolo are among the sides that rely least on this approach, instead favouring structured build-up play and vertical passes.
In midfield, a key role is played by Canadian international Koné, a technically gifted player who resists pressing well, losing possession on just 8.8% of touches. He progresses play effectively with forward passes and, despite missing one match through suspension, ranks as Sassuolo’s second-most frequent provider of progressive passes, behind only Matić. His more advanced positioning makes him vital in linking midfield and attack.
