Match Preview Parma vs Como

Following last weekend’s historic victory over Juventus at the Sinigaglia Stadium, the Lariani will look to build on that performance as they travel to the Tardini Stadium in Parma tomorrow. Returning to the touchline after a two-match suspension, Cesc Fàbregas’ side will face fellow Spaniard Carlos Cuesta, who is in his first season in Serie A.

Here are words from Como 1907’s Head Coach Cesc Fabregas before Parma-Como:

“Parma is one of the most difficult teams to analyse, as they change their formation a lot depending on the match and the opponent.

I know Carlos Cuesta, he was the assistant coach of Arteta, one of the best coaches in the world. During the first international break, we talked about Italian football and our experiences, I think he’s going through what we went through at the beginning of last season.

“We’re in a good momentum. When you win, it helps you see things more clearly and strengthens your belief in your ideas. We need to keep going with the same mentality, with courage and character. The players are responding brilliantly; they’re growing and developing a winning mindset.

It’s very important that my players study the game. I want them to think like coaches, to understand football deeply and apply what they learn on the pitch.

“We will have three games in quick succession coming up. Everyone will play and everyone will have to be ready.”

Parma

The match tomorrow, which will see two Spanish coaches face each other for the first time in the history of Serie A, will be an encounter between two teams with very different playing styles. Como have scored in 22 of their last 24 competitive fixtures, while Parma, by contrast, have failed to find the net in five of their opening seven league games. Despite that, Cuesta’s side have proven to be a resilient and well-organised team — solid in defence, disciplined in structure, and highly effective at closing down space and disrupting passing lanes.

Defensively, the two sides’ statistics also sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. Of the five goals conceded by Como this season, two came within the opening fifteen minutes, whereas three of Parma’s seven goals conceded arrived between the 75th and 90th minutes, reflecting their differing approaches and levels of endurance throughout matches.

Cuesta’s men have made their mark through intensity and midfield battles, as shown by the numbers: Parma rank sixth in Serie A for balls recovered (386) and second for duels won (298). The Emilia-Romagna club have collected five points from their last four games, including a hard-fought draw against Genoa last Sunday, where they kept a clean sheet despite playing with ten men for more than half the match.

Previous matches

The two teams have faced each other 47 times across Serie A, Serie B, Serie C, and the Coppa Italia. The overall record stands at 15 wins for Como, 16 for Parma, and 16 draws.

However, the most recent encounters, played during the 2024/25 Serie A season, went in Como’s favour. The Bianco Blu drew the first leg at the Sinigaglia and won the return fixture 1–0 at the Tardini, thanks to a goal from Strefezza.
