Como 1907 and Fondazione Como ETS Support the Renewal of the Gianluca Zambrotta Pitch in Rebbio
“This pitch is more than just a playing field: it’s a civic square where sport becomes education, inclusion, and a meeting place between generations.”
Andrea Camporini and Giorgio Taiana, team official and coach, spoke about the mission of U.S. Alebbio 1954, a historic club founded in the heart of Rebbio as a parish initiative and now a key reference for a multicultural community.
A multi-sport club with over 300 members across football and basketball, Alebbio promotes the values of respect, commitment, and sharing through its educational activities, welcoming children and young people from at least ten different nations, spanning Eastern Europe, Africa, and Central America, and serving as a vital social connector within the community.
It was on this very pitch, once an unpaved field, that Gianluca Zambrotta, the World Cup winner who began his football journey with Como 1907, first kicked a ball between the ages of six and nine, before going on to a stellar professional career that culminated in a world title. In 2009, Zambrotta donated a synthetic grass pitch to the club and the Rebbio Parish, transforming the old dirt field into a symbol of rebirth, belonging, and community spirit — while maintaining a lasting bond with Alebbio.
The recent redevelopment, supported by Fondazione Como ETS and Como 1907, involved the replacement of the turf on the same pitch donated by Zambrotta in 2009, the purchase of new equipment, and the launch of a shared management plan guided by a participatory framework.
“We’re truly delighted to be part of this project. For us, it’s essential to create social spaces where young people can play sports, spend time together, and learn values such as friendship, respect, and sharing,” said Francesco Terrazzani, CEO of Como 1907 and board member of Fondazione Como ETS.
Thanks to these improvements, the pitch has become a safe and inclusive space, open to all local educational initiatives, youth teams, and parish groups. Ongoing maintenance, supported by the purchase of a small tractor for pitch care, helps preserve the field’s quality over time.
“For many children, it means being able to dream big, following in Zambrotta’s footsteps. This space isn’t just for sport — it’s a place for meeting, enjoyment, and growth,” conclude Camporini and Taiana, emphasising how the Campo Gianluca Zambrotta continues to inspire, unite, and energise the Rebbio community.
