Napoli-Como: Match Preview

After a weekend pause for the opening ceremony of the Milan–Cortina 2026 Olympic Games at San Siro, the BiancoBlu return to action tomorrow evening in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa quarter-final.

The Lariani, coming off a 0–0 home draw with Atalanta in the league, will face reigning Italian champions Napoli. Antonio Conte’s side, following their Champions League exit to Chelsea, have responded with back-to-back league wins over Fiorentina and Genoa to build momentum. Despite a long injury list, the holders have continued to show quality and resilience, underlined last Saturday by a 95th-minute winner against Genoa.

Napoli and Como will battle for a place in the semi-finals, where Inter could be waiting.

Before Napoli-Como Como 1907’s Head Coach Cesc Fàbregas said:

“We have a very important match ahead of us tomorrow. It’s a knockout game against the Italian champions in an impressive stadium. We’ll take to the pitch with our usual mentality and stay focused.”

Napoli

Due in part to a long list of absences, Antonio Conte has adjusted his tactical approach several times this season. He has now settled on a 4-3-2-1, with the two attacking midfielders operating in central areas. Given their profiles, they often function as extra midfielders rather than pure attackers.

Despite the January arrivals of Giovane and Alisson Santos, both with strong attacking qualities, Conte has recently preferred Elmas and Vergara in support of Rasmus Hojlund, who is growing in influence and has 12 goals in all competitions this season. With Lukaku working to regain his best form, and with Neres, De Bruyne, Anguissa, and Politano ruled out through injury, Antonio Vergara, born in 2003, is earning more space and responsibility. He has scored recently against Chelsea and Fiorentina and is showing himself to be a powerful athlete who is improving quickly, with a good eye for goal.

At the back, Rrahmani’s return is a major boost, bringing leadership and quality. Napoli’s technical reference point, however, remains Scott McTominay. He scored an excellent goal in Genoa before coming off with a few physical issues, which have put his availability for the Coppa Italia tie in doubt.

Even with these setbacks, Napoli remain an extremely strong side. They are well organised and compact, effective at closing passing lanes, and set up to win the ball back with short distances between players.

For Como, it is a demanding test against elite opposition. It is also the kind of obstacle they must overcome if they want to reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals for only the second time in the club’s history.

Previous Encounters

The two sides have met 35 times across Serie A, Serie B, and the Coppa Italia. Como have won six, there have been eight draws, and Napoli have won 21.

Their most recent meeting came in November 2025, on matchday 10, when Napoli and Como played out a 0–0 draw.

In the Coppa Italia, the last meeting dates back to the 1999/2000 season. In the group stage, Napoli won 2–1.
