Como 1907 Strengthens Defence with Signing of Ivan Smolčić on four year contract
Como 1907 is delighted to announce the signing of Ivan Smolčić, a 24-year-old Croatian defender, from HNK Rijeka on a contract until 2029.
Smolčić began his football journey with local club Gospić 91 before joining HNK Rijeka’s youth academy in 2014. He made his professional debut in April 2019 and has since become a key figure in the club’s defence. On the international stage, he has represented Croatia at the U21 level, earning two caps in 2022.
Head coach Cesc Fàbregas commented on the last signing of the transfer window stating, “Ivan is a solid defender with excellent positional awareness and a strong understanding of the game. His experience in Croatian football and his international exposure make him a valuable asset as we strengthen our defensive options.”
Ivan Smolčić shared his excitement about arriving at Como 1907, saying, “I’ve heard many good things about Como—the coach, the team, and their rise to Serie A. I believe this is a great step for my career, and I feel confident that I can compete at this level. I’ll do my best to help the team achieve our goals.”
