Discover Domus Plinii

Introducing the local businesses that make up Como’s COMO4COMO Community

On the quiet, eastern edge of Lake Como, Domus Plinii stands as a thoughtful example of how heritage and modern hospitality can coexist without compromise. Set in the small village of Faggeto Lario, this 18th-century residence has gone through several lives—from a traditional inn known as Albergo Plinio to a private villa redesigned by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni in the 1980s. Today, Domus Plinii is a carefully curated guesthouse with twelve suites that reflect a clean, mid-century aesthetic, rooted in the context of its natural and cultural surroundings.

What separates Domus Plinii from the growing number of design-conscious stays around Lake Como is its consistent, low-key focus on place. Everything—from the room names (drawn from the fish of the lake) to the color palettes and vintage furnishings—connects back to the landscape and the lake itself. The attention to detail feels intentional, not ornamental. There’s no excess here, just a clear idea of what kind of experience the property wants to offer: grounded, visually refined, and unmistakably local.

This same philosophy extends to food. At D Lounge, the in-house restaurant, the menu is designed around seasonal produce and close collaboration with nearby growers and suppliers. It’s not about luxury for its own sake, but about maintaining a direct connection to the region—both in what guests see and in what they eat.

The relationship with the surrounding community goes further still. Domus Plinii works with local artisans and producers to bring an authentic layer to the guest experience, while its close ties with the Water Experience Center—just steps away—open up a range of outdoor options that are more immersive than touristic. Guests are encouraged to explore the lake through kayaking, stand-up paddle, or private boat tours, all guided by professionals who know the area well. These aren’t “add-ons”—they’re built into the property’s DNA.

Domus Plinii has also begun to align itself with Como 1907, the city’s historic football club. As another local business part of the COMO4COMO project that enables local businesses to support regional development through contributing to Fondazione Como through the resale of Como 1907 products, there’s a stated ambition to develop joint projects with social value. They plan to do this particularly through the Water Experience Center, a place they believe could connect tourism with broader cultural and recreational goals.

In a region known for postcard views and grand hotels, Domus Plinii offers something quieter and more considered. It doesn’t shout for attention, but for travelers looking for a stay that balances character, quality, and a genuine connection to place, it speaks volumes.
