Club statement on Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry is the latest global superstar to join Como 1907 after the French legend was confirmed as a stakeholder in the club today.
Henry, who joins former team-mate Cesc Fabregas at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, said: “It’s my great pleasure to announce that I will be joining Como 1907 as a shareholder. I have been waiting to get involved in a project like Como for a long time. A club with ambition but most importantly one that holds the same values as me – that the club and its local community both need to thrive.”
“For me, a football club is nothing without its local community. Yet so many times you see commercial objectives overtake and break that special connection and the heart of the club is lost. When I spoke to the team here and they told me about the community initiatives already in place and the ambition to ensure that as the club prospers so does the community, I knew this was the perfect opportunity for me.”
Henry already had a spell in Italian football with Juventus early in his career just before joining Arsenal Football Club where he played alongside Como 1907’s new signing (and fellow World Cup winner) Fabregas.
He was Arsenal’s top goal scorer every season for seven straight seasons and became their greatest ever goal scorer in the history of the club. At FC Barcelona, he was the team’s top goal scorer and made the most assists in his very first season. In his second season he went even better and won the Spanish League, Spanish Cup and the Champions League (“The Treble”).
This was quickly followed by the Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup and the World Club Cup making an unprecedented six trophies in one year. He is the first player to ever win back to back European Golden Boots and the first player to ever win Domestic Golden Boots three years in succession. This coupled with winning two consecutive English Player of the year Awards.
Since blowing the full-time whistle on his playing days, Henry has been manager of his first club Monaco, Montreal Impact in MLS and been assistant to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.
Dennis Wise, Como 1907 CEO, said: “It gives us great pleasure to introduce Thierry Henry, our new shareholder, who really doesn’t need much introduction to the football world. After explaining our vision of where we want to be as a club being part of the community and our ambition to get to Serie A. Thierry has decided to join our journey, we look forward to seeing him in Como”.
Mirwan Suwarso, an official representative of the ownership group continued: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Thierry Henry into the Como family. He shares our vision, that the club and the community should grow and succeed together. On and off the pitch he has been a true statesman for the game and will be a valuable partner going forward.”
