Como 1907: The Match Beyond the Bars

Football has a unique power to break down barriers even the highest ones transforming, for a day, the playing field of Como’s Bassone Prison into a space of freedom, affection and normality.

It is with this spirit that Como 1907 is once again proud to support “La partita con mamma e papà” (“The match with mom and dad) the extraordinary project promoted by the national association Bambini Senza Sbarre (“Children Without Bars”) and delivered locally through the commitment of Cooperativa Lotta contro l’Emarginazione.

For many years, the cooperative has worked to promote social inclusion and protect vulnerable individuals, operating with expertise across several crucial areas, including migration, youth policies, social marginalisation, and the criminal justice sector. Its mission is to foster a society built on equal rights, fairness, and inclusion.

Within Como’s prison, the cooperative runs a number of long-standing initiatives dedicated to the inclusion of incarcerated people and the support of their family relationships. Since 2025, it has been leading the projects “Officina dei Legami” (“Workshop of Relationships”) and “Spazio Giallo” (“Yellow Space”), developed together with Bambini Senza Sbarre to protect and strengthen the emotional bond between children and their incarcerated parents.

Through individual and group educational activities, tailored support programmes, and dedicated child-friendly spaces, these projects help reduce the impact that imprisonment can have on families and support the delicate role of parenthood even within the challenging prison environment.

It is within this broader and carefully structured pathway that “The Match with Mum and Dad” takes place. Far more than just a day of sport and recreation, the event represents the culmination and celebration of an educational and relational journey built throughout the year alongside incarcerated parents, their children, and all the professionals involved.

Fondazione Como ETS chose to support the initiative by providing match shirts for the incarcerated participants and their families, as well as the footballs used during the game. It is a simple yet deeply meaningful contribution, helping to make the occasion even more memorable and reinforcing football’s role as a tool for building positive relationships, creating opportunities for connection and shared experiences through its universal language.

"The collaboration with Como 1907 is extremely important for us because it helps bring visibility to issues that often remain on the margins of public attention. At the same time, we believe that engaging with a leading sporting institution from the local area can offer incarcerated people new perspectives and contribute to building different visions for their future," explained members of the team at Cooperativa Lotta contro l’Emarginazione.

By supporting this initiative, Como 1907 reaffirms its belief in football as a powerful driver of social inclusion, strengthening its bond with the local community and demonstrating that creating opportunities for connection, growth, and hope for the most vulnerable remains the most important goal of all.
