Como 1907 Brings Holiday Cheer to Young Patients in the Community
During the holiday season, Como 1907 visited young patients in two hospitals dear to the Como community.
On December 19, a delegation from Como 1907, including some players from the Primavera squad and members of the Women’s First Team, visited the Centro Maria Letizia Verga in Monza. As part of their tradition, Como 1907 met not only the young patients but also the research department led by Dr. Sarah Tettamanti, who is dedicated to studying and developing therapies against childhood leukemia. This important work is made possible thanks to the support of Como 1907 and the association “Quelli che con Luca ONLUS.”
During this special visit, our young talents had the opportunity to explore the laboratories and witness firsthand how crucial research and studies are in the fight against childhood leukemia.
William Feola, a young defender from the Primavera squad, shared his thoughts about the visit:
“Today was an amazing experience, and it was wonderful to give gifts and smiles to the little champions who fight every day! This experience left me with deep emotions and gave me extra motivation to do better every day, especially for those who are facing tough situations.”
Kristin Carrer, a midfielder from the Women’s First Team, added: “It was a beautiful and touching experience. It’s never easy to see children who are ill. This visit has given me a new perspective. We often worry about superficial things and fail to realize what the real problems in life are. It was interesting to see how research is managed and how treatments are connected to it.”
On December 20, Como 1907 continued spreading holiday cheer with a visit to the pediatric ward at Sant’Anna Hospital in San Fermo della Battaglia, Como. Defenders Edoardo Goldaniga and Federico Barba, along with goalkeepers Mauro Vigorito and Pierre Bolchini, delivered small gifts to hospitalized children.
The young patients received a Como 1907 scarf as a token of encouragement, with the hope of seeing them soon cheering in the stands once they recover. The team also supported the pediatric ward by donating a special device, the “Tytocare,” which allows doctors to monitor and examine patients with complex conditions remotely.
Federico Barba shared his experience from this special afternoon: “I hope this was a different kind of day for them, as they go through difficult times. Bringing a smile and giving the opportunity to make a wish to everyone here, including the healthcare workers who do an excellent job, is a great pleasure for us. We hope they recover soon.”
Throughout November and December, Como 1907 and SENT employees worked to fulfill the wishes of young patients. Between November 10 and December 10, the team collected letters from hospitalized children, taking care of purchasing and delivering gifts directly to their homes. Among the many letters received, one stood out: a young patient decided not to write for herself but for little Achille, who received a special visit at home. Achille, a child living with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, was surprised with gifts and heartfelt affection from the Como 1907 players.
Mauro Vigorito, the Como 1907 goalkeeper, shared his reflections on this touching visit:
“This experience definitely gave me more than what we were able to give them. Bringing greetings to these children and their parents and trying to offer hope and happiness during a challenging time is something very meaningful. For us, it’s an incredible enrichment.”
