Como 1907 U12: Victory at The Eze Invitational

The future of Como 1907 shone brightly under the London lights as the club’s U12 team claimed victory at The Eze Invitational, a prestigious grassroot level tournament. In a convincing 2-0 final victory over Elite Jr. FC, the young Lariani demonstrated the quality and character that defines the Como academy system.

An International Experience

Hosted by Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and his foundation at the Crystal Palace Academy Training Center, The Eze Invitational brought together 80 teams across 10 categories, representing some of the finest grassroots talent from across London and beyond. With over 400 young players participating, the tournament has grown into a beacon for youth development, offering zero-cost participation while providing crucial scouting opportunities from top academies.

The event’s mission resonates deeply with Como’s own philosophy: to engage with community football, create exciting atmospheres for players and spectators, and inspire the next generation. For the 12 Como U12 players who made the journey to London, it represented more than just a tournament – it was a chance to showcase Como’s youth football excellence on the international stage.

The Players’ Experience

For many of the young Lariani, this marked their first international tournament experience. Midfielder Tommaso Giannino captured the excitement perfectly: _”I am very happy to be in London because it is my first time and it is the first time that I do a tournament abroad.”_

The cultural aspect proved equally important. Defender Diego Trezzi expressed his wonder at the opportunity: _”I am happy to be in London because it is my first time and I would like to visit the Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.”_

Despite the success, the players remained grounded about their performance. Mattia Maldifassi reflected on the tournament: _”I feel quite happy with my performance as well as my teammates, but I know we can do even better.”_

Parents’ Pride

The emotional impact extended beyond the players to their families, some of which who came to accompany their children. Giovanni, father of midfielder Leonardo, shared his profound pride: _”I think he really had a lot of fun because it is the first time that he plays outside Italy. I never thought I’d come to see my son play soccer, which I am so proud of.”_

Maria, mother of defender Diego, emphasized the developmental value: _”This is a beautiful experience for him and for all his teammates. For them, playing against children of this level is really something special.”_

The tournament’s organization also impressed the parents. Antonio, father of defender Edoardo, noted: _”It’s a beautiful place, a very well organized tournament at a high level where there are many good children.”_

Coaching Perspective

The coaching staff recognized the broader significance of the experience. Roberto Rudi, the team’s head coach reflected: _”I am very happy to have come to London with the team to do this tournament. It was a nice experience for the kids – it’s beautiful to face teams with a different mentality than what we’re used.”_

Leadership Vision

Como 1907 Head of Development Osian Roberts provided the strategic context for the club’s international participation: _”These international tournaments are important for the development of our players. This young group of players and the staff represented Como 1907 in the best possible way on and off the field and I thank them. To play in the tournament of my former player Eberechi Eze who just scored the winning goal for my former club Crystal Palace versus Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley makes it even more special.”_

Building International Bridges

This triumph extends beyond silverware. Como 1907’s participation in The Eze Invitational reflects the club’s commitment to international development and cultural exchange. Just as the academy has forged partnerships with Ajax Amsterdam and the Japan Football Association, competing in London’s grassroots scene strengthens Como’s global network while exposing young players to different footballing cultures.

The tournament’s emphasis on community engagement and providing opportunities for underprivileged youth aligns perfectly with Como’s values. Eze’s foundation ensures that talent, not financial means, determines participation – a philosophy that resonates with Como’s own commitment to developing players from all backgrounds.

The Como Way on Display

Under the guidance of coach Roberto Rudi, Como’s U12 squad navigated through a competitive field with the same determination and tactical awareness that has become synonymous with the club’s youth development. The single-day tournament format demanded peak performance from the first whistle, and the young Lariani delivered when it mattered most.

The final against Elite Jr. FC showcased Como’s technical superiority and mental strength. A composed 2-0 victory demonstrated not just individual talent, but the collective spirit that runs through every level of the Como academy system – from U7 all the way to the Primavera.

Looking Forward

As the 12 young champions return to Como with their trophy, they carry more than just silverware. They bring experience of competing at the highest level, confidence from defeating quality opposition, and memories that will fuel their development for years to come.

This London triumph adds another chapter to an already remarkable season for Como’s youth system. From the Primavera’s historic 2nd-place finish in Group A to tournament victories across multiple age groups, the U12 success at The Eze Invitational proves that Como’s development philosophy produces winners at every level.

The victory at The Eze Invitational serves as another reminder that Como 1907’s future is in excellent hands. From the shores of Lake Como to the training grounds of Crystal Palace Academy, the next generation of Lariani continues to make their mark on the global stage.
