Como Legends: Marco Cassetti

Marco Cassetti, ex-player and assistant coach of Como 1907, reminisces about some of the most iconic moments of his footballing career: from his Serie A days with AS Roma, the 2013 EFL Championship play-off semi final with Watford, to the Serie B promotion with Como 1907. He remembers Como’s victory at Matera in the 2015 play-offs: “We showed everyone that that team was a strong one.”

Wearing the AS Roma jersey, in December 2009, Marco scored a goal in the derby against SS Lazio, which earned Roma a 1-0 victory. Marco told us: “Even now, Roma fans remember that goal.”

In 2013, Watford played in the play-off semi final against Leicester. In the 96th minute, both teams only needed a goal to win. The referee awarded Leicester a penalty: “After Almunia’s first save, I saw him completely motionless on the ground on his knees, and instead, out of nowhere, he raises an arm and pushes the ball away. I cleared the ball as far as I could. It found my teammate who then scored the winning goal. From a possible tragedy, it became an incredible victory.

I’m lucky to be able to tell the story as a winner.”
