Como-Milan: Fàbregas’ Como Prepares for a Tough Test Against Milan

Como 1907 will take on AC Milan in the Serie A Enilive Week 19 replay tomorrow, 14 January 2025 at 18:30 CET, in a challenge that will conclude the Lariani’s first half of the season. Cesc Fàbregas’ side are fresh from their 1-1 draw against Lazio last Friday, and are determined to win key points in the fight for a place in the top flight. All eyes will be on Maxence Caqueret, Como’s new midfielder, who arrived a few days ago from Lyon.

“It will be a challenging match. Conceição’s Milan adopt a 4-3-3 formation, and has a more aggressive approach compared to previous management. They press high from the opening minutes, aim to  attack the opponent’s defensive line quickly, and have many players beyond the ball line. As always, we will step onto the pitch to compete for the win.”

Previous Encounters

The history of matches between Como 1907 and AC Milan is rich with fascinating stories, even though the record leans in favour of the Rossoneri. In Serie A, Milan have secured 13 victories, compared to nine draws and three wins for Como.

The last meeting between the two sides was during the 2002/03 season, when Carlo Ancelotti’s Milan earned a 2-0 victory at the San Siro. In the same season, Como suffered another defeat at the Sinigaglia, with the Rossoneri prevailing 2-1.

Como’s most recent triumph in Serie A came on 13 January 1985, nearly 40 years ago, with a historic win at a snow-covered San Siro during the 1984/85 season. Milan’s players struggled due to a poor choice of studs, creating the perfect conditions for a memorable Como victory.

Another standout moment for the Larians occurred on 21 March 1982, when Como claimed a 2-0 win at the Sinigaglia during the 1981/82 season. Unfortunately, that year ended with the relegation of both teams, amidst dramatic scenes as Milan fans protested by throwing stones onto the pitch.

The rivalry also includes two Serie B clashes in the 1982/83 season: Como triumphed 1-0 at the Sinigaglia, while Milan responded with a 2-0 victory at the San Siro. Numerous encounters in the Coppa Italia have further added to the depth and passion of this Lombard rivalry.

Players to Look Out For

Milan’s star players include Christian Pulisic, who has scored 10 goals this season, Tijjani Reijnders, Rafael Leão and Theo Hernández.
