Cremonese-Como: Match Preview

The final 90 minutes before the curtain falls on the 2025/26 season. Como visit Cremonese at the Zini Stadium following their home win over Parma. The hosts, currently 18th in the table and one point behind Lecce, are coming off an away win against Udinese and will give everything in an attempt to secure potentially crucial points.

Similarly, Como, off the back of three consecutive positive league results, will do everything in their power to build on last Sunday’s victory. In Cremona, a no-holds-barred clash awaits between Marco Giampaolo’s team and Cesc Fàbregas’s side: the final ninety minutes before the Serie A season officially comes to an end.

Here are the words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Cremonese-Como:

“It's going to be a hard-fought match. Cremonese are fighting for an objective, and we’re fighting for another. Once again, it’s the biggest game of our season because we keep growing and competing for bigger goals. In matches like these, handling emotions, making fewer mistakes and staying clear-headed are all crucial.

“I often receive letters from the fans, I read one today that said: ‘Thank you for all the experiences you’re giving us.’ That’s the most beautiful part, inspiring a new generation of kids who now go to school wearing Como jerseys and looking up to players like Paz, Baturina and Douvikas as their idols.

“People often focus on Como’s attacking competency, but our defensive improvement has been just as important: 28 goals conceded, 19 clean sheets and 12 goals allowed in the last 18 matches. Those numbers are remarkable and they represent this group: mentality, organisation, energy, discipline, clarity of ideas and a constant desire to improve.”

Cremonese

The team led by Coach Giampaolo has changed formation several times in recent weeks, alternating between 3-4-3, 4-4-2, and 3-5-2. In their last few matches, Cremonese have certainly rediscovered their scoring touch, with Jamie Vardy, Federico Bonazzoli, and David Okereke all finding the net against Pisa and Udinese. With Bonazzoli’s nine goals, Vardy’s seven, and Okereke back in form, capable of creating openings with his pace, the Grigiorossi are more than capable of causing problems in attack.

On the flanks, depending on the system, Coach Giampaolo rotates several players with different profiles: more traditional attacking wide players like Zerbin and Floriani; more defensively minded options like Pezzella and Barbieri; and midfielders like Vandeputte, who can add both quality and work rate. In midfield, Cremonese typically rely on a compact, hard-working trio of Maleh, Grassi, and Thorsby, offering versatility and support on the counter.

In defence, with Baschirotto out, Luperto and Bianchetti are the most likely starters at the heart of the back line, with Terracciano operating as the third or fourth defender, depending on the formation. Como will face a high-intensity side that looks to disrupt the rhythm of their passing game before attacking aggressively into the box, in what promises to be a fiercely contested match.
