Fan Profile: Katia Domenichini
Raised in Como, Katia Domenichini has dedicated her entire life to the city and its football team. Influenced by her brother, she cultivated a strong passion for football from a young age. This passion led her to the Sinigaglia Stadium as a young girl, where she became a loyal supporter of Como 1907. She fondly reminisces about those times, saying, “I started coming to the stadium when I was 12. I was present at the promotion in the 1974/75 season.”
Katia experienced many historic moments with Como 1907 before taking a break when she got married and became a mother. The last match she attended before her hiatus was the Como-Udinese game on 30th November 1986, just nine days before her daughter was born.
After a long period of absence, Katia returned to the stadium during a challenging time for the team. Upon her return, during the Serie C2 playoff game against Alessandria, she found a very different atmosphere, with few fans present. “At that time, you could count the number of fans on two hands,” she recalls. Despite the initial shock, her passion did not fade. Along with a group of fans, she decided to contribute by painting the famous ‘Como’ sign on the stands of the Sinigaglia. She proudly remembers that experience, despite the difficulties: “The M drove me nuts because I kept going backwards and forwards to see how it came out! It was a very beautiful experience.”
Katia never truly abandoned Como 1907. She followed the team from Serie D, through Serie C, up to the promotion to Serie B, even during the pandemic, when fans were forced to watch the games from home. “I experienced the promotion during Covid outside of the Sinigaglia, watching the game on my phone,” she recalls. She also lived through some disappointing moments, such as the club’s bankruptcy under Massimo Nicastro’s management, but she remained hopeful. Nicastro was instrumental in bringing in the current ownership, which Katia deeply admires for its discreet but effective approach.
Today, Katia is proud to see the city fall in love with Como 1907 once again. The excitement level is very high, and while it sometimes annoys her that some occasional fans might get tickets before her, she is happy to see the packed stadium.
Katia emphasises how the current ownership has brought an unprecedented level of marketing and fan engagement. From family-friendly activations to freebies in the tribune, each detail is designed to establish a strong bond with the community. These efforts are paying off, with an increasing number of people coming to support the team, with sold out stadiums in the last few home games of last season, making Como 1907 not only a local phenomenon but a widespread one.
