International Break Recap - March

During the international break, 10 players from Como 1907 were called up to represent their respective national teams in various World Cup play-offs, friendlies, and European youth qualifiers.

Mërgim Vojvoda was the standout performer during this period, featuring for a total of 161 minutes across the semi-final and final of the 2026 World Cup qualifying play-offs. The Como winger played the full 90 minutes in the 4–3 away win against Slovakia, providing two crucial assists, and then appeared for a further 71 minutes in the 1–0 defeat to Turkey in the final. While Kosovo narrowly missed out on their first-ever World Cup qualification, Vojvoda still made history as part of the team reaching its highest-ever stage in the World Cup qualifiers.

In the Argentine squad, Nico Paz, who started against Mauritania, scored his first-ever goal for the Albiceleste from a free kick, playing a total of 45 minutes in the 2–1 victory. In the other friendly, a 5–0 win over Zambia, Paz came on in the 74th minute, adding a further 16 minutes to his appearances and bringing his total to 61 minutes during the international break. Meanwhile, Máximo Perrone played the final 16 minutes against Zambia.

Assane Diao returned to the Senegal national team, playing a total of 68 minutes across two friendlies. He came on in the 67th minute, featuring for 23 minutes in the 2–0 win against Peru, and then started the 3–1 victory over Gambia, playing the full 45 minutes.

Martin Baturina played a total of 99 minutes for Croatia across two matches in the United States: he came on in the 61st minute for 29 minutes in the 2–1 win over Colombia, and then started the 3–1 defeat to Brazil, playing 70 minutes. Ivan Smolčić did not feature in the first match but came on in the 82nd minute of the second, playing the final 8 minutes.

Tasos Douvikas started as centre-forward against Paraguay before being substituted in the 86th minute and remained on the bench for the 0–0 draw against Hungary.

Noel Törnqvist was on the bench as reserve goalkeeper for both of Sweden’s World Cup play-off matches: a 3–1 win against Ukraine and a 3–2 victory over Poland, which secured Sweden’s spot at the 2026 World Cup.

Among the younger players, Adrian Lahdo made his mark with Sweden U19s, starting in the 2–2 draw against Germany and scoring in the 68th minute. He also started in the 3–0 defeat to Austria and did not feature in the 2–2 draw against Greece, which brought Sweden’s Elite Round campaign to a close.

Álex Valle started both of Spain U21’s matches, playing 63 minutes in the 7–0 win over Cyprus, providing an assist for the fourth goal. He then played 87 minutes in the 2–0 victory against Kosovo.

Returning from international duty, the players are now training with the rest of the squad ahead of the away fixture against Udinese on Easter Monday.
