Juventus-Como: Match Preview

After the draw at San Siro against AC Milan on Matchday 24, the Lariani now prepare for another away fixture — this time at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus.

Following their strong response against the Rossoneri after the defeat to ACF Fiorentina, Cesc Fàbregas’ side face a Juventus team eager to react. The Bianconeri have won just one of their last five matches and are looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s 5–2 defeat at Galatasaray.

Currently fifth in Serie A with 46 points, Juventus have improved significantly under Luciano Spalletti. Since his arrival in November, they have lost only three league matches and now boast the second-best attack in the division (43 goals scored) and the sixth-best defence (23 conceded). Saturday’s fixture promises to be an intriguing contest between two proactive sides sitting fifth and sixth in the table.

Juventus

Since the 2–0 defeat at the Sinigaglia on 19 October, much has changed at Juventus. Igor Tudor has been replaced by Luciano Spalletti, who has introduced a new system that has improved both their attacking output and defensive solidity.

Saturday’s match will feature several notable absences. Nico Paz is suspended for Como, while Juventus will be without Vlahović, Kalulu and Holm. Bremer remains doubtful after picking up knocks in Istanbul, and Jonathan David is also struggling for fitness.

In his first few months in charge, Spalletti has experimented with different formations. He began with a 4-2-3-1, often adapting it into a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 depending on the opposition.

Andrea Cambiaso and captain Manuel Locatelli have been among Juventus’ most consistent performers. Cambiaso is increasingly involved in the build-up, often moving inside to create an extra passing option, while Locatelli provides balance, leadership and reliability in midfield. Alongside their talented forward Yıldız, Weston McKennie has also impressed. The American’s versatility has seen him operate in several roles — from central midfield and second striker to winger and even right-back when required. In Istanbul, Spalletti also used him as a false nine to create space for the wide attackers.

Spalletti’s Juventus side are physical and intense, looking to control central areas and create overloads out wide. If David is unavailable, McKennie could once again lead the line, with Openda and Boga offering pace and directness in behind.

For Como, competing strongly in midfield against powerful players such as Thuram, Locatelli and Koopmeiners will be key. With Holm and possibly Bremer missing, Cambiaso may have greater freedom on the right, while Gatti is expected to anchor the defence alongside Kelly and Cabal.

Previous encounters

Juventus and Como have met 16 times in Turin: seven wins for the Bianconero, eight draws and one victory for Como.

Como’s only victory in Turin dates back to the 1950/51 season, when they won 3-0 thanks to a brace from Ghiandi and an own goal by Manente.
