Match Preview | Como 1907-Roma

With the international break now over—during which 15 first-team players were called up—the Biancoblu are preparing for a demanding run of fixtures. The first of these takes place on Sunday, 11 October at 12:30 PM, when Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma side visit Cesc Fàbregas’ team.

It promises to be an exciting yet challenging return to action for the Lariani: the visitors have sat atop the table since matchday one and arrive at the Sinigaglia undefeated this season. A tactically fierce lunchtime clash is on the cards, offering every prospect of a great spectacle.

The words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Como 1907-Roma:

"Roma are an incredibly proactive side. They bring so many players forward, even their defenders, and they have young, determined players. We need to go out there, perform at a high level, and take the game to them, just as we’ve tried to do ever since we got here.

We’re a team that rotates quite a bit even when playing once a week, depending on fitness levels, the opposition, and who suits a specific context best. When games come in quick succession, I have to be smart in gauging how the squad responds.

Every department in this club is growing alongside the first team. Those of you who have followed Como over the last three years know where we started. We’re still at the beginning, but the growth of our academy is a source of immense pride for the club and for everyone who has worked tirelessly to adapt to our proactive, player-focused philosophy."

Roma

Having secured Champions League qualification last season, Roma are now aiming to firmly establish themselves as Scudetto contenders. The quality of the squad—further strengthened during the summer transfer window and now in its second season under Gasperini's leadership—gives the passionate Giallorossi faithful every reason to be optimistic.

Roma travel to the Sinigaglia unbeaten across all competitions, buoyed by four league wins and a recent draw against Inter, alongside a hard-fought draw against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul to open their Champions League campaign. The capital side lines up in a well-drilled 3-4-2-1 formation, which Gasperini’s men execute with modern intensity, courage, and a relentless desire to press high and dictate the tempo.

Roma’s record from their first five league matches shows 14 goals scored, having conceded just 3. Goalkeeper Svilar has also kept three clean sheets, though he is currently injured and unavailable, as is captain Cristante. Gollini will be between the posts for the Giallorossi, protected by centre-backs of proven reliability and international experience such as Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso and Balerdi. In midfield, De Roon and Manu Koné serve as the anchor and vital link between defense and attack, while Wesley, Molina, and Lulli provide width, dynamic energy, and defensive coverage. Up front, Dybala’s quality, the emerging talent of Soulé, Pisilli, and Rodrigo Mora, and the clinical finishing of Malen and Castro give Gasperini an attacking unit capable of unlocking any defense.

Previous encounters

In Serie A, Como and Roma have met 14 times at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. The head-to-head record at home slightly favors the Lariani, who have registered 6 wins, 4 draws, and 4 defeats against the Giallorossi.

The Biancoblu’s last victory came last season on 15 March at the Sinigaglia, when second-half goals from Douvikas and Diego Carlos overturned a 1-0 deficit following Malen’s first-half penalty to seal a 2-1 win for Como 1907.
