Match Preview Como vs Hellas Verona

Coming off a draw at Parma, Como and Hellas Verona will face each other at the Sinigaglia Stadium on Matchday 9 of Serie A Enilive 2025/26 tomorrow. After their historic win over Juventus, the Biancoblù earned a 0–0 draw away to Parma, only the second time this season they have finished a match without scoring, the first being against Bologna.

Following the return of Assane Diao, who made his first appearance of the season in Parma, Como will also have Jesús Rodríguez available again after serving a three-match suspension.

The next challenge, Hellas Verona, is one of only four teams in the league yet to record a win. In Sunday’s match against Cagliari, the Gialloblù let slip a two-goal lead, conceding an equaliser in stoppage time. Despite this, Paolo Zanetti’s team has impressed with its attacking creativity and unpredictability, qualities that have troubled opponents such as Udinese and Juventus in recent draws.

Here are words from Como 1907’s Head Coach Cesc Fabregas before Como-Hellas Verona:

“I think Verona’s position in the standings doesn’t reflect their true quality. They’re a dangerous side with very clear ideas, and their attacking duo, Giovane and Orban, is quite different from the one we faced against Parma, they’re a pair that often looks to exploit the space with their pace. Our defensive line will need to read and handle these situations well. It will require focus and a strong team performance to take all three points”.

“Step by step, we’re building something that continues to grow, and for me, that’s what matters most: maintaining our philosophy and identity. That’s our real strength as a team. We’ve shown clarity and simplicity in our play, consistency in our approach, a clear vision, and, above all, belief in the path we’re on. We must keep developing, and I’m confident the results will come”.

Hellas Verona

Despite having played eight matches without a win, Hellas Verona remain a well-organised side that, at the start of this season, have shown they possess several players capable of making a real impact thanks to a mix of technical quality and athleticism.

In Paolo Zanetti’s 3-5-2 formation, one of the standout performers so far has been Rafik Belghali, a right wing-back who has caused problems for more than one opponent with his pace and physical strength. Protecting the central area of the pitch is the trio of Serdar, Gagliardini, and either Bernede or Akpa-Akpro, all hard-working midfielders who help the Gialloblù regain possession and build play both through the middle and out wide.

Verona currently recorded only four goals scored in eight matchdays, but their forward pairing is among the most interesting and balanced in the league. New signings Gift Orban and Giovane complement each other perfectly: Orban, with two goals to his name, leads Serie A in expected goals (5), while Giovane, a creative playmaker with superb technique, ranks 14th for expected goals (1.9) and 17th for expected assists (1.7).

Hellas Verona is currently ranked second in the league for shots on target (40 in eight games) and is a team that, despite lacking cynicism in attack, creates chances continuously and can threaten opponents in different ways, especially on the counterattack.

Previous Encounters

There have been 30 previous encounters between the two teams at the Sinigaglia: the record shows 15 wins for Como, 9 draws, and 6 victories for Hellas Verona. In last season’s match on the shores of the lake, the Lariani won 3-2 thanks to a brace from Cutrone and a goal from Belotti, securing their first Serie A victory in 23 years.

Verona’s last victory at the Sinigaglia was in August 2004 in the Coppa Italia, when Adailton’s brace secured the win for the visitors. This season, however, Verona have gone 287 minutes without scoring away from home, their last away goal coming from Suat Serdar on the opening day of Serie A in Udine.
