Matchday seven of Serie A sees Como 1907 head to the Artemio Franchi Stadium to face Fiorentina. Just four days after playing the first European away fixture in their history, Cesc Fàbregas’s side are back on the road to take on the team managed by Paolo Vanoli. Kick-off is set for Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 PM.
The words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Fiorentina-Como 1907
"Playing in Florence is always a big occasion, against a historic club with a great coach and quality players. They've built a good squad and are improving match after match. It will be a very demanding game and an interesting challenge to prepare for.
"We know this season presents a new challenge for everyone at the club, so an adjustment period was always to be expected. I believe we’ll find our rhythm together. The squad is doing well and working calmly. It’s not about how you start, but how you finish."
Fiorentina
This past summer reignited Fiorentina’s ambitions as they look to build on last season’s 15th-place finish. The Viola underwent several changes during the transfer window, including a coaching swap that saw Paolo Vanoli replaced by Fabio Grosso. However, after three consecutive defeats to open the campaign, the board reversed course, reappointing Vanoli - who had originally taken over mid-season during the previous campaign.
Vanoli is now tasked with picking up where he left off. Having guided the team through a hard-fought survival fight and shown grit during the second half of last season, he inherits a thoroughly revamped squad packed with skill and talent. Under his guidance over the last three league matches, Fiorentina have claimed their first four points of the season, earning a win away at Venezia and a draw at home against Napoli.
Fiorentina’s squad pairs seasoned international experience - led by goalkeeper and captain David de Gea - with high-potential youth. Chief among them is Franco Mastantuono, on loan from Real Madrid. The squad boasts no shortage of quality: Dodô, João Mário, Jiménez, and Valdepeñas give them attacking full-backs eager to push forward and overlap with wide attackers like Pedro Gonçalves, Wilfried Gnonto, Njie, and Mastantuono. In midfield, Nicolò Fagioli and Cher Ndour offer a balanced mix of technical control and physical presence, while Pellegrino and Beto provide raw power and a goal threat in the box.
Head-to-head
The all-time Serie A record between Fiorentina and Como 1907 is dead even: 11 wins for the Tuscan side, 11 for the Lariani, and 6 draws across 28 meetings. At the Artemio Franchi Stadium, however, the stats lean slightly in favor of the Viola: Como have won in Florence 5 times, alongside 7 defeats and 2 draws.
The most recent meeting between the two sides at the Franchi brings back fond memories for the Biancoblu faithful. On September 21, 2025, goals from Marc-Oliver Kempf and Jayden Addai - both set up by Nico Paz - overturned an early home lead to seal a dramatic 94th-minute comeback victory for Como.
