Match Preview Fiorentina vs Como
Following the home draw against Genoa, Como are set to return to the pitch on Sunday, 21 September 2025, for Matchday 4 of the Serie A Enilive season 2025/26. The team will travel to Florence to face Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium, in what marks the first managerial encounter between Cesc Fàbregas and Stefano Pioli.
The words of coach Cesc Fabregas on the eve of Fiorentina–Como
“If we want to win in Florence, we definitely need to play a great game. It’s true that they’re a very physical, structured team that’s comfortable in one-on-one situations, but we’ll need to be good at managing the ball, imposing our game and winning those duels, which are fundamental here in Italy.
“This is the first time we’ve had to play three matches in six days. We’ve never experienced this before, not even me as a coach. I think I’ll be making a very, very important change for Wednesday: to give opportunities, energy and confidence and to continue to grow. We’ve built a very balanced team and I’m convinced that everyone can do well: every player is showing me that they deserve a chance.”
Fiorentina
Fiorentina have picked up just two points from their first three league games for the first time since the 2019/20 season, when they managed only one. The match also marked the first managerial meeting between Stefano Pioli and Cesc Fàbregas. Pioli hadn’t started a league campaign with just two points after three matches since 2013/14, when he was in charge of Bologna.
Luca Ranieri has now scored three goals in his last 11 competitive appearances for Fiorentina: against Real Betis in Seville and Polissya at home in the Conference League, and most recently against Napoli in Serie A. Fiorentina have scored eight goals so far in the 2025/26 season, with the defender currently their top scorer with two goals.
Head-to-heads
Since the 1949/50 season, Como and Fiorentina have faced each other 36 times across Serie A, Serie B, and the Coppa Italia. The overall head-to-head record favours Fiorentina, with 17 wins, compared to 12 for Como and 7 draws.
In Florence, the two sides have met 20 times: the Viola have won 12, with 3 draws and 5 victories for the Lariani.
One of Como’s wins in Florence came by default: on 4 April 1976 in a Serie A fixture, the Lariani lost 1–4 on the pitch, but the result was overturned to 2–0 in Como’s favour after goalkeeper Rigamonti was seriously injured by an object thrown from the stands, forcing him to leave the match. The Como coach at the time was Osvaldo Bagnoli, who would later lead Verona to a historic Scudetto in 1984/85.
The most recent two official meetings took place in last season’s Serie A campaign: Fiorentina won the first leg at the Sinigaglia, while Como claimed a 2–0 victory in the return fixture at the Franchi, thanks to goals from Assane Diao and Nico Paz.
