Following their 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium against Arsenal, Como is ready to face Liverpool in the extraordinary setting of Anfield in the Lariani’s final preseason friendly before their Serie A debut on the road against Udinese.
At 7:00 p.m., the BiancoBlu will take the field against the Reds in a prestigious and crucial friendly match, offering them the chance to test themselves against a top-tier opponent as they prepare for their historic debut in the UEFA Champions League. Before the match scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Como will play another friendly, also against Liverpool, at 12:30 p.m., behind closed doors.
Cesc Fàbregas’s comments ahead of Liverpool vs. Como
"The friendlies in Liverpool mark the end of our pre-season camp. This is another opportunity to test ourselves against the very best in world football, and we must make the most of it. The new season officially kicks off in a week’s time, bringing with it new challenges, so we’ll need to be fully focused".
Liverpool
The team, led by Andoni Iraola, who arrived this summer from Bournemouth, is also preparing for its final pre-season friendly before opening its Premier League campaign on Sunday, 23 August, away to Newcastle. The friendly against Como could also mark the debut of new signing Ronald Araújo, the defender who joined the club from Barcelona in recent days. Another new arrival, Víctor Muñoz, has already made his debut, featuring in the friendly against Monaco.
It will be an important test for the Reds as they work on their final preparations ahead of the Premier League season. Under their new manager, Liverpool have recorded victories over Sunderland and Wrexham, while suffering defeats to Leeds and Monaco this summer. Several of their key players have already found the net in pre-season, including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Rio Ngumoha, Federico Chiesa and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Como
Cesc Fàbregas’s side head into the matches against Liverpool following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, a game that ultimately saw the Gunners prevail on penalties. It was another important test for Como, who responded to Myles Lewis-Skelly’s opening goal with a superb strike from Martin Baturina. The match also saw both Yan Couto, who started the game, and Trevoh Chalobah, who came on as a substitute, make their debuts in the BiancoBlu colours.
Sunday’s fixtures will once again give Como the opportunity to test themselves against a top-level opponent as they continue to build towards peak fitness and form ahead of their league opener. Como will begin their Serie A campaign on Saturday, 22 August, with a 6.30pm away fixture against Udinese.
