Match Preview | RC Lens v. Como 1907

Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League group stage sees Como 1907 head to northern France. Cesc Fàbregas’ Biancoblù take the pitch on Wednesday, November 4 at 9:00 PM at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, home of Racing Club de Lens.

Fresh off resounding 4–1 victories over RB Leipzig and Manchester United at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, Como are aiming to claim their first-ever Champions League points on the road. In the club’s maiden European away fixture in Rotterdam on October 14, the Lariani fell just short, losing 3-2 to Feyenoord.

This trip to France offers Fàbregas’ men another opportunity to get off the mark away from home, though Lens are notoriously formidable on their own turf. It is no fluke that the French side has already lifted silverware this season, having captured the Trophée des Champions at home with a gritty 1–0 win over reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Captain Lucas Da Cunha and his teammates face a tough test in the electric atmosphere of the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, where Lens will look to make home advantage count.

Head Coach Cesc Fabregas’ words before Lens-Como

"The team is doing well and is full of energy. This is the fourth Champions League match in our history, and we're continuing to grow and gain valuable experience. The players are motivated and really looking forward to tomorrow because it's a special match in a special atmosphere. I think simply being here gives us so much excitement and motivation, and makes us want to do everything we can to go out there and win.

We're building a mentality, a strong working culture and an identity around the style of football we want to establish here at Como. We need to keep moving in the same direction, because our aim is always to compete and fight for victory."

Lens

Runners-up in Ligue 1 last season, Lens have reached the UEFA Champions League group stage for just the third time in 25 years. After an opening matchday win away at Slavia Prague, Les Sang et Or came away empty-handed against Sporting CP and Club Brugge in their next two outings.

Now managed by Yannick Cahuzac - promoted from assistant to head coach in September - Lens typically line up in an aggressive, modern 3-4-2-1. Jean-Clair Todibo and Samson Baidoo anchor the three-man backline shielding goalkeeper Robin Risser, while Ruben Aguilar, Matthieu Udol, and former Roma man Saud Abdulhamid provide versatility as full-backs or wing-backs. In the engine room, Massadio Haïdara and Michaël Cuisance inject energy and ensure rapid transitions from defense to attack.

Lens pose their biggest threat in the final third. Thorgan Hazard and Florian Thauvin, a familiar face to Serie A fans, bring flair and creativity to ignite the home support. Mihailo Ivanović and veteran Florian Sotoca round out the forward line: the towering striker offers a potent presence inside the box and running in behind, while Sotoca provides relentless work rate, leadership, and a deep connection to the club he has represented since 2019.

Head-to-head

Wednesday’s clash marks the first-ever competitive meeting between RC Lens and Como 1907. However, Lens do have recent memories of the Sinigaglia, having lifted the 2026 Como Cup during pre-season, though they did not cross paths with Fàbregas’ side during the tournament.
