Como 1907 are set to return to action on Tuesday evening, as they take part in one of three matches opening Matchday 9 of Serie A. Just three days after their home win over Sassuolo, secured by a brace from Tasos Douvikas, who has recently extended his contract until 2031, Cesc Fàbregas’s side will travel to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to face an in-form Torino side led by Ignazio Abate.
The BiancoBlu head to Turin on the back of three consecutive victories across all competitions, having beaten Fiorentina, Manchester United and Sassuolo. Torino, meanwhile, have also enjoyed a positive run of form, winning their last three league matches against Udinese, Parma and Monza. These results have helped the Granata climb to eighth place in the table after eight league games.
With both sides keen to build on their recent performances, Tuesday’s midweek fixture promises to be a competitive encounter between two teams full of confidence and eager to continue their positive runs. Kick-off is scheduled for 8.45 pm on Tuesday, October 27.
The words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Torino-Como 1907
"Tomorrow’s match against Torino will be a very important one, our fourth in the last 10 days. We’ll be facing a side that’s come off the back of three consecutive wins and will therefore be full of enthusiasm. We’ll need to stay focused for the full ninety minutes and manage every phase of the game as best we can. I’ve seen the lads on top form over the last two days following the win against Sassuolo; we need to keep it up."
Torino
Torino will be looking to round off October on a positive note after a run of victories that has highlighted their clear tactical identity. Their style of play is modern, dynamic and courageous, built around intense pressing off the ball and a desire to move forward quickly whenever possession is regained.
In his first season managing a Serie A side, Ignazio Abate has earned praise for the character his team have shown in the opening matches. Torino have approached each challenge with confidence, remaining true to the playing principles established by their coach.
The Granata generally line up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with the forwards and midfielders leading the press and putting pressure on the opposition’s first line of build-up. Behind them, Coco, Ismajli and Comuzzo typically form the defensive trio in front of goalkeeper Perri. In midfield, Fitz-Jim and Gineitis help dictate the tempo, while Belghali and Cacciamani provide pace and attacking threat from the flanks. In the absence of Zapata, who is still working towards his best form, captain Vlasic has taken on the responsibility of wearing the number 10 shirt and linking midfield with attack. Up front, Simeone and Adams, alongside Kulenovic, have already contributed seven goals for the Granata across the first eight matchdays.
Head-to-head
There have been 40 previous meetings between Torino and Como 1907, 30 of which were played in Serie A. The head-to-head record in the top flight favours the Granata with 14 wins, compared to 7 for the Lariani and 9 draws.
The BiancoBlu have secured just two wins away at Torino in Serie A. The first dates back to 1986, when Como 1907 won 3–1 thanks to goals from Maccoppi, Corneliusson and Tempestilli. The second, however, is still fresh in the minds of all Como fans, having taken place on 24 November with a convincing 5–1 victory (a brace from Addai, followed by goals from Ramón, Paz and Baturina).
