Pisa-Como: Match Preview

Como have made a positive start to 2026, picking up three important points at home against Udinese and temporarily moving into sixth place in the table. Against the Bianconeri, a penalty converted by captain Da Cunha and a strong collective defensive display proved decisive, allowing the Lariani to secure the victory. However, with just three days between matches, the BiancoBlu are now asked to focus once again as they look to build on that performance. On Epiphany, Como will play for the Matchday 19 of the Serie A season at the Cetilar Arena, home of Pisa. The Tuscan side, currently at the bottom of the table alongside Hellas Verona and Fiorentina, come into the match encouraged by a valuable point away at Genoa and will be determined to make things difficult on their own ground. It promises to be a demanding test, with the Lariani needing to play their best football against a team that has already taken points from Atalanta, Milan and Lazio this season.

Pisa

Under the guidance of head coach Alberto Gilardino, Pisa usually line up in a 3-5-2 system. As is often the case with this formation, much of the team’s balance comes from the work of the wing-backs and the box-to-box midfielders, who play an important role at both ends of the pitch. Midfielders Idrissa Touré and Samuele Angori have been among Pisa’s standout performers this season. Both offer strong athletic qualities and the ability to move inside to help build play, producing influential displays on several occasions, including at home against Inter. Defensively, they support the back three, while in possession they help provide verticality and width, allowing Pisa to stretch the pitch and progress the ball effectively.

Against Como, the Tuscan side will be without a number of important players. Experienced defender Raúl Albiol was forced off through injury against Genoa and will miss the match, as will Juan Cuadrado and young midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, who has been one of Pisa’s revelations this season but is currently away with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In midfield, Aebischer is expected to provide balance and control, while Léris arrives in good form as a mezzala, having scored the crucial equaliser in Genoa. Further forward, Tramoni and Nzola could lead the line. Tramoni tends to operate between the lines, drifting across the attacking third to create space, while Nzola offers a strong presence in the penalty area, using his physicality to hold up play and compete in the air. The Angolan forward has scored three league goals so far. Overall, Como can expect a well-organised and competitive side, one that will look to use physical strength and pace to pose problems throughout the match.
