Selena Mazzantini Appointed Head Coach of Como 1907 Women’s First Team
Como 1907 has confirmed the appointment of Selena Mazzantini as Head Coach of its Women’s First Team, marking a significant step in the club’s ambitions as it prepares to compete in Serie B.
The move follows Como’s recent acquisition of the sporting title from Chievo Verona Women, enabling the club to enter the second tier of Italian football. Mazzantini’s arrival signals a clear intention: to build a competitive side with strong foundations and a long-term identity.
A former midfielder with a decorated playing career, Mazzantini represented clubs including Ascoli, Torino, Roma, and Lazio — winning a Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, the Italy Women’s Cup, and the Italian Super Cup. Since beginning her coaching career in 2007, she has worked across both the men’s and women’s youth sectors at Roma Calcio Femminile and Lazio, where she also served as Head of the Men’s Youth Department.
In 2018, she joined the FIGC’s Club Italia structure, rising through the national setup as assistant coach of the Under-17s and later Head Coach of the Under-19 and Under-23 women’s teams. In 2024, she led the Italy Women’s U17s to a historic double: qualifying for both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Heather O’Reilly, advisor to Como 1907’s Women’s Team, commented: “We are thrilled that Selena is our new head coach. Throughout the process, Selena has shown her professionalism, knowledge, and ability to clearly demonstrate her coaching philosophy. She is deeply committed to player development, which is essential for any team, as athletes constantly strive to improve, and that drive ultimately leads to better results. She is not scared of our ambitious project, instead she is embracing it. No doubt she will be a great leader of Le Bianco Blu.”
After signing, Selena Mazzantini stated: “I’m thrilled to begin this extraordinary adventure. Como 1907 is an ambitious club with a clear, forward-thinking vision. Our goal is to build a healthy, competitive environment with a strong identity. I’m ready to give my absolute best.”
Preseason for the Women’s First Team begins later this month, with the club focused on building a side capable of challenging in Serie B—and setting the foundation for future promotion.
