Welcome Home Osh
Como has a new face in town: former Technical Director of the Moroccan and Welsh Football Associations, Osian Roberts and most recently Assistant Manager at Premier League side Crystal Palace. The Welsh man was appointed on December 20th 2023 as Caretaker Manager until the end of the season and as Head of Development for the club. Osh, as he prefers to be called, has been tasked with creating a Como Culture within the organisation.
“I’ve enjoyed walking around Como. I’m here to live in the community, my wife has moved to Como with me, so I’m not just here to work and go home. I want to enjoy the culture, the traditions and the history of this wonderful place.”
Osh holds Italian football in high regard with ex-Como player and World Cup Winner Marco Tardelli being one of his role models. A fan of high defensive lines and intense pressing as demonstrated by his love of AC Milan’s style of play in the 1990s, Osh puts the players at the centre of tactical discussions.
“It’s important that the players take ownership of what we’re doing. Ultimately, it’s the players that have to cross the white line. They have to believe in what we do. Sometimes they will come up with better ideas than we as coaches have. So it’s crucial to ask questions such as: do you think this is the best way to create space for you or can we do it in a different way that’s better for you? We’re here to help the players play at their best level.”
