Kristiāns Mežsargs: Como’s Young Latvian Striker with a Point to Prove

In January Como 1907’s Primavera signed Kristiāns Mežsargs, a 19-year-old Latvian striker with an impressive goal-scoring record. The former Frosinone Primavera forward, who has also represented Latvia’s U19 national team 12 times and scored twice.
Before joining Como, Mežsargs had an exceptional first half of the 2024/25 season with Frosinone Primavera, where he contributed significantly to their promotion campaign to Primavera 1. His statistics speak volumes: Eight goals and four assists in just nine appearances, demonstrating the clinical finishing ability that caught Como’s attention.
“I would say my strength is goal scoring and my physicality,” Mežsargs explains. When asked about his playing style, the young striker draws inspiration from one of football’s current superstars. “I model my game after Haaland. I like his goal-scoring ability, and his movements off the ball are amazing. He’s always at the right time in the right place.”
Despite facing injury challenges that limited his appearances in the first half of the season at Frosinone, Mežsargs has shown remarkable resilience. “The most valuable lesson I learned this year is that with every injury, I came back stronger,” he reflects. “I came back with the same motivation and the same hunger.”
This mental fortitude has already paid dividends at Como, where he announced his arrival with a goal on his debut following recovery from injury. In his five appearances for the Lariani’s Primavera side, he has netted twice, contributing to the team’s impressive unbeaten run in their promotion chase.
Speaking about his adaptation to life in Como, Mežsargs is enthusiastic: “I have adapted very well. It’s a beautiful city, and my teammates and the staff have welcomed me very well.”
The Latvian striker joins a Como Primavera side currently in second place, and his outlook on the team’s promotion aspirations reflects both ambition and maturity. “The team is doing amazing. We’ve finished second in the regular season and will now compete in the playoffs,” he observes. “But to achieve our goals, we need to stay humble because in football, you can get humbled very fast. When you think you’re on top of the world, everything can crumble in just one day. So I would say to be humble, keep on working as we are working, and push as we are pushing every day – the results will come.”
As Como 1907’s Primavera side continues their push for promotion, Mežsargs represents another exciting addition to their growing pool of international talent, embodying the club’s commitment to developing young players while maintaining high-performance standards.
