Celtic Claim Third Place in the Como Cup
26/07/2025 | Al-Ahli vs Celtic | Como Cup Third-Place Final | Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia
Al-Ahli 1–1 Celtic (3–5 APKs)
Scorers: Galeno 24’, Trusty 50’
The third evening of the Como Cup saw Al-Ahli and Celtic go head-to-head in an international clash for the third place of the podium. Both sides were looking to bounce back after their opening defeats and leave their mark on the inaugural edition of the competition.
Al-Ahli took the lead in the 24th minute with a spectacular bicycle kick from Brazilian winger Galeno, but Celtic responded early in the second half through a precise finish by Trusty in the 50th minute.
With the score locked at 1–1 after the full 90 minutes, the match was decided from the penalty spot. The Scottish side held their nerve, converting all five penalty kicks, while Ali’s miss proved decisive for the Saudis.
Celtic thus secured third place in the first-ever Como Cup, as they continue to prepare for the start of the Scottish league next week.
