COMO 1907 AND AVIS: The Community of Giving

Como 1907 has joined forces with AVIS Provinciale di Como to launch an initiative that brings together the Club and the local community in a project of significant social value.

The partnership aims to expand the network of blood donors in the Como area, engaging an active community like the fans of Como 1907.

AVIS, the Italian Association of Blood Volunteers, was founded in Milan in 1927 to address the difficulty of obtaining blood for transfusions. Since then, it has ensured the availability of blood and its derivatives for all patients across the country who need them. Based on principles of gratuity, anonymity, and solidarity, AVIS transforms the voluntary action of thousands of people into an essential healthcare service for the community.

Donating blood means contributing directly to the health of everyone and supporting a healthcare system that saves lives every day, thanks also to the generosity of donors. Blood donation is a voluntary, free, and anonymous act, representing one of the highest examples of civil solidarity. In Lombardy, thanks to AVIS donors, the transfusion system is self-sufficient: all the blood used in the region’s hospitals comes from voluntary donations, a result made possible only through the constant participation of thousands of citizens.

AVIS arrived in Como in 1936. Today, the provincial association coordinates 21 local branches across the territory and counts over 16,500 members, who together make approximately 30,000 donations of blood, plasma, and platelets each year at hospitals and collection units throughout the province. This daily work, carried out by volunteers and donors, ensures the safety and availability of blood for those in need.

Plasma donation, however, is still not fully self-sufficient to meet regional demand. Raising awareness and involving new donors, especially young people, is therefore crucial. Each year, around 10% of donors must be replaced due to age limits, they can donate between 18 and 65 years or for health reasons.

Beyond donations, AVIS also visits schools, where volunteers explain to children the importance of giving, helping them understand from a young age that donating is an act of solidarity that can truly save lives.

“Having the support of the BiancoBlu community means uniting two worlds connected by a sense of belonging. We want to meet extraordinary people who choose to transform their pride for Como into a precious gift for others, becoming part of our great network of solidarity.” These are the words of Vincenzo Davì and Filippo Pozzoli, representatives of AVIS Provinciale Como, highlighting that being a fan is not just about supporting the team on the field, but also sharing values like responsibility and engagement in the life of the community.

This campaign is part of AVIS’s 90th year of activity in Como and represents another step in strengthening the connection between the world of volunteering and sport.

Be AVIS. Be COMO.
