Da Cunha’s goal and Perrone’s perfect assist in Rome
French midfielder Lucas Da Cunha unblock the game against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico by finishing off Maxi Perrone’s through ball. It was Da Cunha’s second goal of the season, while 23-year-old Argentine midfielder Maxi Perrone picked up his second assist of the campaign.
“I am happy to have scored against a great team like Roma and in a prestigious stadium like the Olimpico: it was a good feeling. As for the game, I think we’ve continued the good form we’ve shown in recent matches. We played with character and identity. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any points, but I’m sure the work will pay off because we’re on the right track.”
The goal made Da Cunha the first Como 1907 player in 23 years to score an away goal against Roma in Serie A. The last time this happened was in the 2002/03 season, when Denis Godeas scored in the 73rd minute while trying to catch up with the Giallorossi. The match ended 2-1 in favour of Roma.
Maxi Perrone, a 23-year-old Argentine midfielder, also recorded his second assist of the season when he set up his teammate Lucas Da Cunha. His first assist came in the first leg against Napoli, when he provided the pass for Gabriel Strefezza in a 1-1 draw.
“At that moment, I didn’t think too much; I followed my instinct. I saw the space between the lines and tried to pass it to Lucas in the best possible way. He managed to free himself and was excellent in finishing. It was a good run from him, and I’m happy that the action led to the goal.
“I think we played well. We took to the field with the right mentality and gave everything until the end. It’s a shame to come away without points, especially after putting everything into the game, even when down to ten men, and creating chances until the very end.
“We are a growing team. We are working very well and, match after match, we are improving in many areas. The mentality is the right one, and we must continue on this path.”
