Match Preview  Como Vs Südtirol

After a summer of hard work and international friendlies, Como 1907 returns to the pitch for their first official match of the season. Tonight, at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, the Lariani will face Südtirol in the first round of the 2025/26 Coppa Italia, officially kicking off the new season.

Südtirol

Como will come up against Fabrizio Castori’s Südtirol, with Castori having been in charge of the Tyrolean side since last season’s Serie B campaign. The former coach of Carpi and Cesena, among others, Castori also holds the record for most appearances in Serie B, having played 567 games since 2004.

Südtirol finished 10th in the league last season and during their summer preparations played friendlies against Hellas Verona, Trento and Virtus Bolzano, registering a draw, a defeat, and a victory respectively.

The driving force behind the Tyroleans’ attack is Daniele Casiraghi, an attacking midfielder born in 1993 who has been with Südtirol since 2019. A skilful player with excellent vision, he enjoys taking on opponents one-on-one and creating space between the lines.

Supporting him are striker Raphael Odogwu, a key presence in the box, and captain Fabian Tait, who provides balance in midfield. In defence, the experience of Andrea Masiello combined with the dependable goalkeeping of Giacomo Poluzzi ensures solidity and leadership at the back.

Previous encounters

Como and Südtirol have faced each other 15 times in their history across Lega Pro and Serie B, with tonight’s match marking their first meeting in the Coppa Italia. The overall record stands at five wins for Como, four for Südtirol, and six draws.

The last two official fixtures, played during the 2023/24 Serie B season, which saw Como’s historic promotion to Serie A, ended in victories for Como in both legs.
