Maxence Caqueret: A Playmaker with a Flair for Goal
As dusk settled over the Sinigaglia, Como found themselves needing a spark. Trailing 0–1 to Cagliari, inspiration came from a moment of brilliance between two sharp minds in the Como midfield. Máximo Perrone split the lines with a perfectly weighted pass; Maxence Caqueret made a run and lifted a delicate finish over Caprile and into the net.
For a moment, silence — the flag was raised. Then came the VAR check, the referee’s decision, and finally, an explosion of noise from the crowd. Como were back in it.
“I’m delighted to have scored my first goal for Como. Perrone’s assist was perfect. Really, I’m just very happy today,” Caqueret said.
“It was a thrilling goal, but we had to wait for confirmation. I wasn’t sure if I was offside. When the referee gave it, I was overjoyed — it’s a great moment for the team.”

Caqueret’s clever lob in the 40th minute reignited Fàbregas’s side. Just minutes later, Strefezza netted his third goal in three consecutive games, and in the second half, Cutrone — on his 100 appearances for his hometown club — sealed the win with a third goal for the BiancoBlu side.
Looking at the numbers, in just over an hour of play, Caqueret attempted three shots (one on target and decisive), won a tackle, won in three aerial duels, and helped drive possession up to 62%.
“We had to wait twice — even Patrick’s goal went to a VAR check for offside, but in the end it was given, and we’re all happy with the win.”
His analysis is as composed as the way he controls the game on the pitch.
“We knew we had to react after going 1–0 down. The first 20 minutes weren’t good, but the team’s response made the difference. With the equaliser and Strefezza’s goal, we were back in it. The team showed real character, and that’s what brought us the three points.”

The 3–1 win over Cagliari marked Como’s sixth consecutive victory — a feat no newly promoted side had achieved in over 50 years. The team now sits on 48 points.
“Yes, our goal is to stay in 10th place. We need two more wins to make sure we secure that position,” Caqueret said.
“When I arrived in January, the main objective was staying up. But after five or six games, I realised we were a really strong team and could aim higher.”
“I didn’t expect to find a group like this, every player has real quality, and the coach is incredible. We’re enjoying our football and already thinking about next season. Winning six in a row proves our value.”
In the corridor after the final whistle, Caqueret received a word of encouragement from the coach.
“He told me in French: ‘You’ll score again against Hellas Verona.’ I really hope I can!”
The respect is clearly mutual.
“As a former midfielder, he really helps me grow. He speaks to me every week and It’s just incredible working with him — I get valuable advice all the time.”

The move from Lyon to Como was a leap into a more tactical and collective football.
“In France, football is more instinctive; in Italy, tactics are everything. Here, the game is played with more collective structure, whereas in Ligue 1, the individual talent of a single player counts for more.”
In order to immerse himself even more in the new reality, Caqueret has a precise linguistic goal: “I am learning Italian and I hope, in the coming season, to do interviews like this completely in Italian.
Serie A has already put him to the test.

“The most complicated match was against Bologna: a compact team, a solid project. When we faced them, they were the best I have encountered.”
With 16 appearances, 1 goal and 3 assists in BiancoBlu, the French midfielder intends to raise the bar. “Scoring my first goal in this jersey, on a top assist from Perrone, is a beautiful day for me. Then Strefezza and Patrick closed the game with two splendid goals. We are happy for the club, for our teammates, for the fans”.
His vision of the game, his aggressive pressing and his new-found confidence under goal are the pillars on which Fàbregas wants to build the Como of the future. With Caqueret controlling the midfield, the team continues to pursue the dream that now finally seems within reach.
