Sebastian Burlacu: Como’s Romanian Wonderkid Making His Mark

The Romanian midfielder, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday on May 2nd, arrived from LPS Suceava to join the Como Academy with a maturity that belies his age.

Despite being one of the youngest signings at Como, Burlacu has already made significant strides in his development. While primarily featuring for the U17 team since his arrival, his impressive performances have earned him multiple call-ups to the Primavera squad, where he has already made two appearances.

“My strength is my technical ability and also my physique,” Burlacu explains with confidence. “I’m pretty tall and have a very good physique for my age.” When pressed about his technical abilities, the young midfielder’s response exudes self-belief: “With the ball at my feet, I’m invincible.”

The Romanian youth international brings with him experience from representing his country at junior level, an achievement he holds dear. “It’s like a dream come true when you are there, listening to the national anthem and you know you are going to represent your national team,” he reflects with pride. So far, he has earned two caps for the Romanian U15 national team.

Having experienced both U17 and Primavera football at Como, Burlacu has been impressed by the quality throughout the club’s youth sector. “The guys are very good, especially the Primavera guys,” he observes. “They are working so hard for the championship, for the promotion. They deserve to be promoted.”

The transition from Romanian to Italian football has presented new challenges and learning opportunities for the young midfielder. “The level of competition in Primavera 2 compared to what I was used to is very high,” he explains. “The rhythm of football is much higher here. It’s more based on speed and technical ability, whereas what I was used to was more physical with more long balls.”

Despite these differences, Burlacu is confident in his ability to adapt: “I think I can get used to it pretty easily.” This adaptability, combined with his technical skills and physical presence, makes him an exciting prospect for Como’s future.

When asked about the Primavera team’s promotion aspirations, Burlacu’s response reflects the confidence running through the squad: “I don’t think – I’m sure we will get promoted to Primavera 1 because the guys are very motivated and everyone wants it here.”

His journey in football has already taught him valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance. “You should never give up because football has ups and downs,” he shares. “A bad game or stuff like that should never make you sad.”

As Como 1907 continues to invest in young talent, Sebastian Burlacu represents the club’s commitment to developing promising players who combine technical excellence with the right mentality. His rapid progression from U17 to Primavera appearances suggests this is just the beginning of his journey in the blue and white colors of Como.
